ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh alert, warning of heavy rainfall in various parts of the country over the next two days. Areas likely to be affected include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan.
Monsoon rains, which usually fall from June to September, help cool down the summer heat and are vital for agriculture and water supply.
However, they also bring serious risks such as floods, landslides, and damage to homes and infrastructure, especially in low-lying and heavily populated areas.
According to official reports, at least 19 people have lost their lives in the last two days due to rain-related incidents in Balochistan, KP, and the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) has warned of possible flood-like conditions, after which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to remain on high alert and fully prepared.
In its weather update issued on Monday, the Met Office stated that monsoon rains will continue to lash different regions of Pakistan, especially the upper parts, until July 10. Rain along with wind and thunderstorms is expected in Punjab, KP, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, southern and northeastern Balochistan, and Islamabad.
Heavy rainfall is likely at some places in Kashmir, northeastern Punjab, Potohar region, and parts of Balochistan. The public has been urged to stay cautious and follow weather updates in the coming days.

Landslides may occur in the mountainous regions of KP, Azad Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat, which could block roads and disrupt traffic.
