PTI’s Sania Nishtar resigns from senate seat, citing personal reasons

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Sania Nishtar has resigned from her Senate seat, citing personal reasons for her decision. Nishtar was elected as a senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2021.

As per private media sources, she sent her resignation to the Senate Secretariat, and the staff present there confirmed that the resignation was received. Senator Sania Nishtar resigned to take up a job in an international organization in Geneva.

Former federal minister and senator Sania Nishtar was elected as a senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2021. She has been the head of various public projects during the PTI government.

Who is Dr. Sania Nishtar?

Dr. Sania Nishtar (born 16 February 1963) is a Pakistani cardiologist and author who has served as Federal Minister and BISP Chairperson on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection to the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

As per data from private news website, she previously served in the interim federal cabinet in 2013, overseeing public health, education, and science. Sania Nishtar also chaired the WHO High-Level Commission on Non-Communicable Diseases, along with the presidents of Uruguay, Finland, and Sri Lanka.

She is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Healthcare and chairs the US National Academy of Sciences Global Study on the Quality of Healthcare in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.

Additionally, she chairs the International Advisory Board of the United Nations World Health Organization and is a member of the International Advisory Board on Global Health of the German Federal Government.

Dr. Sania Nishtar, Special Assistant to former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation, is also the first Pakistani woman to receive two doctoral (PhD) degrees from King’s College London.
