KARACHI: In an important step by the Sindh government, the Excise Department has made biometric verification mandatory for vehicle registration and transfers.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that all new and old vehicles will require biometric verification during the registration or transfer process.
Under the new policy, the change will be implemented in three phases. He said that in the first phase, biometric verification will be mandatory for the registration of new vehicles from July 1.

In the second phase, biometric verification of vehicle buyers will be done from November 1, and in the third phase, biometric verification of both the vehicle seller and the buyer will be required. Matriculation will be verified.
Sharjeel Memon said that the government of Sindh wants to ensure that Sindh moves ahead with digitization in public services. Biometric authentication in vehicle registration and transfer is an important milestone in promoting transparency.
Sharjeel Inam Memon added that biometric authentication will help in identification of buyers and sellers, illegal transfer of vehicles, and protect citizens from fraud. One can approach the facility centers or any district excise office.
