RAWALPINDI: Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz has expressed her displeasure with the Food Department officials for providing incorrect statistics about flour (atta) prices.
In a special meeting chaired by Punjab CM, an unprecedented step was taken by presenting the actual market prices of flour.
The prices disclosed in the Food Department’s briefing did not align with the actual market rates, leading the Chief Minister to voice her dissatisfaction with the inaccurate data.
During the meeting, a decision was made to establish flour prices according to the Pakistan Quality Control Standards category.
Maryam, acknowledging the rising atta prices, requested a daily report on market flour prices and agreed in principle to permit the transportation of flour with appropriate permits.
During this event, Punjab Chief Minister remarked, “I will not tolerate unjustified hikes in flour prices. The mafias are active while the departments are inactive.”
If the departments fail in their responsibilities, how can governance be enhanced? The farmers have sold their wheat; now, the public will not be subjected to exploitation by mafias.
At the end of meeting Maryam Nawaz Sharif instructed the reorganization of the Food Department, directing legal measures against corrupt individuals and the introduction of a digital monitoring system for Food Department officials and staff.
