ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a four-page written order on Sunday, following its instructions to caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, as well as the ministers of interior, defense, and human rights, to personally attend the next hearing scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) regarding the missing Baloch students case.

The order, issued by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC, mandates the presence of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the ministries of defense, human rights, and interior, along with their respective secretaries, at the hearing on February 19 at 10 am.

During the previous hearing on February 13, the court had directed the interim premier to appear before the bench.

At the beginning of the last hearing, the assistant attorney general (AAG) requested an adjournment citing the unavailability of the attorney general. However, the request was denied.

Justice Kayani additionally stated that severe penalties should be imposed on those involved in enforced disappearances.

“People implicated in enforced disappearances should face the death penalty twice,” remarked Justice Kayani. He then requested the caretaker PM to personally appear and clarify why a case should not be filed against him.

Nevertheless, the advocate general requested more time for the case, but Justice Kayani rejected the government’s plea.

This marks the second instance where PM Kakar has been summoned by the IHC. He was previously summoned on November 29, 2023, in the case filed by Advocate Imaan Mazari, but was unable to attend as he was out of the country.
