LAHORE: The head of Jamaat-i-Islami, Sirajul Haq, has reiterated the imperative for granting equal opportunities to all political parties during elections, asserting that it falls under the Election Commission of Pakistan’s constitutional duty.

Addressing a press briefing on Sunday, he underscored the necessity of transparent elections, stressing that the responsibility chiefly lies with the ECP to ensure universally accepted results, cautioning against any pre-voting controversies.

Furthermore, he announced the commencement of a 63-day election campaign by JI youth starting from December 8, aiming to effectuate genuine change through voting.

Detailing the strategy, he proposed the formation of JI youth units comprising 10 members per polling station to prevent electoral malpractices.

The campaign’s objectives also encompass a substantial increase in the voter base by engaging at least 10 million additional individuals. Haq highlighted that JI had already allocated 50 percent of national and provincial assembly tickets to the youth.

Responding to inquiries, he dismissed the prospect of entering into electoral alliances with other political parties, emphasizing JI’s intent to form an alliance with the populace instead.
