ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan assumed the position of the new chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) without facing any opposition following the party’s internal elections held today.
Imran Khan, the former prime minister, had endorsed Gohar Khan as his successor since he was ineligible to participate in the elections due to his disqualification in the Toshakhana case.
Additionally, Umar Ayub Khan was unanimously selected as the party’s central general secretary, as confirmed by Niazullah Niazi, PTI’s Chief Election Commissioner in Peshawar when announcing the election outcomes.
Niazi further disclosed that Ali Amin Gandapur and Dr. Yasmin Rashid were appointed as the party’s provincial presidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, respectively.
The PTI conducted these internal elections in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to safeguard its election symbol, the “bat,” for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February next year.
