Peshawar’s Educational Crisis: Nearly 12,000 Teaching Positions Remain Unfilled

PESHAWAR: It has been revealed that 11,978 teaching positions are currently vacant in government educational institutions in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As per official documents, vacancies are observed across both male and female teaching roles in grades 12 and 15. Boys’ schools, in particular, have 1,174 openings for certificate teachers in grade 15.

The documents also reveal that there are 390 openings for drawing teachers, 388 for physical education teachers, 424 for Arabic teachers, and 302 for theology teachers in grade 15 within boys’ schools.

Furthermore, there are 195 available positions for grade 12 readers and 75 for grade 12 CTIT (Certified Trade and Industry Teacher) roles. In addition to this, there is a substantial number of 4,330 vacancies for male teachers in primary schools.

In total, there are 7,275 unfilled male teaching positions in Peshawar.

Moreover, girls’ schools are also facing a shortage, with 4,703 teaching positions remaining vacant. This includes 558 CT positions, 272 drawing master roles, 305 physical education teacher positions, and 312 Arabic teacher openings.

The official documents indicate that there are 2,957 unfilled positions for primary school teachers.

In response to these revelations, the Education Department spokesperson mentioned that the Election Commission has imposed a ban on new recruitments. If this restriction is lifted, new teachers can be hired.
