Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, speaking on Thursday during a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee of Punjab, reiterated his commitment to maintaining robust efforts against a wide range of illegal activities in Pakistan. He emphasized that these actions would be carried out with unwavering determination to eliminate significant economic losses.

The army chief’s remarks were made in the presence of Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and were part of a comprehensive briefing on the security situation. The meeting covered various topics, including measures taken against electricity and gas theft, hoarding, and the smuggling of foreign currency, as reported by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR statement also mentioned discussions on the protection of minority rights, progress in riverine area operations, and the repatriation of illegal foreign nationals. Additionally, the meeting featured updates on the Special Investment Facilitation Council and the Green Punjab initiatives.

General Munir was quoted by the military’s media wing as saying, “Enforcement actions against a wide range of illegal activities will persist with full force, in close collaboration with law enforcement agencies and relevant government departments, aiming to eliminate the considerable economic losses Pakistan continues to endure due to various forms of pilferage.”

The COAS stressed the importance of synergy among all relevant departments to ensure the success of these pivotal initiatives. The ISPR statement added, “Participants expressed a shared commitment among state institutions, government departments, and the public to advance the progress and prosperity of the province.”

Earlier this month, General Munir had engaged with the business community in Lahore and assured them of efforts to enhance transparency in dollar exchange and interbank rates. During the extensive four-hour meeting, he also pointed to Pakistan’s promising future, driven by forthcoming substantial foreign investments across various sectors.
