LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League (N) President and former Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has declared that party leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to make his return to Pakistan on October 21.

During a media briefing held in London, Shahbaz Sharif, accompanied by party leader Nawaz Sharif and other prominent leaders, including Khawaja Asif, disclosed that this decision was reached following extensive consultations within the party. Leader Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming is slated for October 21.

Maryam Aurangzeb, the spokesperson for the Muslim League (N), posted a significant statement from President Shehbaz Sharif on the social media platform Twitter. In her statement, she conveyed, “The esteemed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the people’s leader, is set to return home on October 21.”

She further added, “The citizens of Pakistan eagerly await Nawaz Sharif’s return and will warmly welcome him.”

Shahbaz Sharif, addressing the media in London, underscored Nawaz Sharif’s accomplishments, highlighting his pivotal role in transforming Pakistan into a nuclear power and his instrumental role in advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Additionally, he attributed the resolution of the 20-hour load shedding issue in Pakistan to Nawaz Sharif.

Expressing remorse for the offer made to Nawaz Sharif in exchange for abandoning Pakistan’s nuclear ambitions, Shahbaz Sharif emphasized that he believed Pakistan’s interests were worth more than the offered $5 billion.

He bemoaned the disruption of Pakistan’s progress in industry, handicrafts, and agriculture between 2013 and 2018, which he attributed to the 2018 elections, asserting that Nawaz Sharif’s return on October 21 would be celebrated nationwide, with hopes of rejuvenating the country’s economy to the levels it had achieved before Nawaz Sharif’s removal from power in 2017.

The former prime minister maintained that Nawaz Sharif’s removal had not stripped him of power but had deprived the people of Pakistan of development and prosperity.

Regarding accountability for those involved in conspiracies, Shahbaz Sharif stated that the matter would be addressed upon his return to Pakistan.

During the briefing, Khawaja Asif, a prominent leader of the Muslim League (N), was questioned about his views on Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial, who was set to retire in four days. Khawaja Asif responded by saying, “He will not leave a lasting legacy but will be remembered as an Imrando judge.”

Khawaja Asif criticized Chief Justice Bandial’s decisions and the perceived erosion of the judiciary’s dignity during his tenure. He drew parallels with past judges who had faced similar criticism, asserting that history would not be forgiving.

When asked about the reservations raised by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) regarding the upcoming elections, Shahbaz Sharif stressed that conducting elections was the constitutional duty of the Election Commission. He added that the assembly had been dissolved after completing its constitutional term, and it was now the responsibility of the Election Commission to organize elections based on the new census. He expressed optimism that the Election Commission would fulfill its responsibilities.
