SUKKUR: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has said that there is no level-playing field for everyone in the Pakistan.
He made the remarks while speaking to the media after offering condolences to the family of Sindhi journalist John Muhammad Mehr, who was killed in an assassination attack in Sukkur.
During the media interaction, a journalist asked Bilawal Bhutto Zardari about the level playing field in the country, particularly in light of Imran Khan’s incarceration and Nawaz Sharif being abroad. In response, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari asserted that the current situation in Pakistan does not provide an equitable playing field for all citizens, and he voiced his objection to this.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also noted that journalist John Muhammad Mehr was killed during the final days of the People’s Party government. At that time, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had ordered the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. Expressing his concern, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pointed out that progress in the case has not been as expected, raising numerous questions. He called upon the caretaker government and the bureaucracy to prioritize the swift delivery of justice in this matter.
He further highlighted that some officers dispatched to Karachi are from other provinces and may not fully grasp the situation. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the entire province of Sindh is united in demanding justice for journalist John Muhammad Mehr and expressed hope that the caretaker chief minister of Sindh would personally visit the bereaved family.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also drew attention to the transfer of American weapons from Afghanistan to terrorists in the Kachcha area. He expressed concern for the police officers battling bandits in that region and criticized Imran Khan’s policy, warning of potential dangerous consequences.
Moreover, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari voiced his criticism of the rise in terrorism across the country, attributing it to the failure to implement the People’s Party’s anti-terrorism strategy. He contrasted the People’s Party’s approach, which advocated for a more aggressive stance against terrorists before the 2014 operation, with other parties’ calls for negotiations.
Turning to Imran Khan’s policies, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari accused him of destabilizing national security in a short period. He alleged that Imran Khan facilitated the escape of terrorists from Afghan prisons to Pakistan when the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, raising concerns about their resettlement in FATA and the potential security risks to Karachi.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urged collective decision-making by citizens, politicians, police, and the army regarding the nation’s stance on forgiving the nation’s enemies. He stressed the importance of a departure from the old way of running the country, emphasizing the need for justice for citizens, martyrs, and the state, as well as accountability for those responsible for erroneous decisions.
He also called for transparency regarding the circumstances of the terrorists’ return and emphasized the constitutional rights of areas with gas discoveries to prioritize its use before distributing excess supplies to distant regions.
On the subject of elections, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari underscored the Election Commission’s authority to set the date for general elections. He urged them to announce the date, linking inflation, the economy, and elections, and stating that elected representatives in Islamabad are better positioned to address these pressing issues.
