ISLAMABAD: Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been arrested by the police from Gilgit House in Islamabad.
Qureshi was taken into custody under the 3 MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) and has been transferred to an unknown location. Cases of arson and rioting have been filed against the PTI leader.
In a video statement made before his arrest, Qureshi declared that the movement he is a part of is a true freedom movement, and that he has contributed to it alongside his comrades. He expressed disappointment at being unable to fulfill his responsibility after being entrusted with it by Imran Khan, adding that the real freedom struggle must continue.
Qureshi, a former Foreign Minister, stated that he had defended Pakistan’s interests at every forum during his tenure. He denied any wrongdoing and stated that he had not made any provocative statements that would warrant legal action. He expressed confidence that their struggle would reach its desired destination.
The PTI leader urged his supporters and party officials to remain steadfast in their pursuit of their cause and not lose heart. He emphasized that they had not taken the law into their own hands in the past and would not do so in the future. Qureshi also denied the accusations leveled against him and Imran Khan in the Corps Commander Lahore incident.
It is worth noting that after the arrest of Imran Khan, several party leaders, including Asad Umar, former Punjab Governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema, and Ali Zaidi, have also been arrested.
