ISLAMABAD: The birthday of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, November 9, will be observed as Iqbal Day in the country, a day dedicated to honoring the contributions of the great poet and philosopher.
The legacy of Allama Iqbal continues to inspire generations, and his ideas remain a guiding force for youth.
As Iqbal Day approaches, there are growing questions among the public regarding whether the day will be declared a public holiday, especially since November 9, 2024, falls on a Saturday.
This holiday has had a tumultuous history in recent years. After being suspended in 2015, it was reinstated in 2022. Last year, the Cabinet Division announced that Iqbal Day would be observed as a public holiday, which has led to hopes that the same decision will be made this year.

Iqbal Day (November 9) is marked in the official holiday calendar for 2024, issued in January this year, signaling that the usual commemorative events will take place.
With the date drawing near, the public is eagerly awaiting an official announcement regarding the holiday. However, as of now, no official notification has been issued, leading many to speculate whether November 9 will be declared a public holiday for Iqbal Day.
The 2024 holiday list, issued earlier this year by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, does include Iqbal Day on November 9, raising expectations that the day will be celebrated with the customary events and ceremonies honoring Allama Iqbal’s legacy.
