ISLAMABAD: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the National Assembly that under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, the federal government initiated a Rs 35 billion mega project in the capital city to enhance healthcare facilities for the public.
Replying to a calling attention notice raised by Asia Naz Tanoli regarding the significant increase in Hepatitis C patients in Islamabad, the minister stated that the prime minister has already launched a mega programme under the annual Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) with international support to provide the best healthcare and facilities to the people of Islamabad.

He said the government in 2005 had started a programme for Hepatitis patients. After the devolution of the health ministry to the provinces in 2011, there is now a proper programme at the federal level, he said.
However, the minister stated that both PIMS and Poly Clinic hospitals are providing treatment facilities to the patients in this regard.
He said that over 90,000 medical tests for hepatitis were conducted at PIMS last year, with only 3,664 tests returning positive.
