ISLAMABAD: Irfan Nawaz Memon, Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, presided over a meeting of the District Intelligence Committee to assess security preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram in the federal capital, Islamabad.
The spokesman of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration stated that senior police officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) and SSP (Operations), as well as representatives from various NGOs, were present at the meeting. The security of Chinese people was also discussed during the meeting.
The officials emphasized that a comprehensive security plan for Muharram would be finalized. DC Islamabad assured that security during Muharram would be stringent, with all institutions collaborating under a unified strategy.
On the occasion, the DC called for strict checks at the entry and exit points of the Federal Capital. He also warned that stringent security measures would be adopted for the safety of citizens and that no one would be allowed to create a law and order situation in the city.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and marks the start of the Islamic New Year. Muharram also holds greater significance – as stated in the holy Qur’an, it is one of the four sacred months.
