World Cup 2023: Bangladesh Secure Six-Wicket Victory Over Afghanistan

In the third ODI World Cup 2023 match held in India, Bangladesh secured a victory over Afghanistan with a six-wicket triumph. The Bengal Tigers successfully chased down a target of 157 runs in the 35th over.

In the Bangladesh innings, Najamul Hussain Shinto led the way with a top score of 59 runs, supported by Mehdi Hasan Miraz with 57 runs, Latin Das contributing 13 runs, Shakibul Hasan adding 14 runs, and Tanzeed Hasan contributing 5 runs. Afghanistan’s Fazalul Haq Farooqui, Naveen Haq, and Azmatullah Umarzai managed to take one wicket each during Bangladesh’s innings.

On the other hand, Afghanistan’s innings saw opener Rehmanullah Garbaz as the highest scorer, accumulating 47 runs. Additionally, Ibrahim Zadran scored 22 runs, while Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi both contributed 18 runs, and Azmatullah Omarzai added 22 runs. Najeebullah Zadran scored 5 runs, Mohammad Nabi exited with 6 runs, Rashid Khan managed 9 runs, and Mujeebur Rehman contributed only one run. Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazl Farooqui did not manage to score any runs.

The Bangladesh captain, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mehdi Hasan both took three wickets each, while Sharaful Islam secured two wickets, and Tasin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bowl first against Afghanistan in a match held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

In reference to the toss, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan expressed the team’s commitment to performing well. Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah, speaking on the occasion, highlighted the team’s excitement about playing in India, with the IPL experience benefitting them. He also referred to India as their home ground in a way.

The second match of the day in the Cricket World Cup is currently underway between South Africa and Sri Lanka in New Delhi.
