ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs across the country, aimed at monthly adjustments for consumers.

According to the issued notification, Karachi will experience a reduction of Rs. 4.03 per unit, while other cities nationwide will see a decrease of 50 paisas per unit.

NEPRA’s notification includes separate adjustments for electricity tariffs starting from April 2025 for K-Electric and from May 2025 for other parts of the country. It promises relief for consumers in July 2025 bills.

In the notification, it was mentioned that the monthly adjustments for electricity tariffs have been reduced, with K-Electric seeking a reduction of Rs. 4.69 per unit in its April adjustment, while CPPA requested an increase of 10 paisas per unit in its May adjustment. However, for government discos, a reduction of 50 paisas per unit has been made.

Earlier, Minister of Energy Awais Leghari said that consumers using up to 200 units are being given an 80% discount. “We will take further steps regarding relief for consumers,” he added.

Mohammad Idris chaired a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Energy where the issue of alternate grid stations for HESCO and K-Electric was discussed.

HESCO authorities said that if there is a fault in Jamshoro grid, the entire HESCO goes into blackout. A fault in the Jamshoro grid means that 13 cities are deprived of electricity.

Minister of Energy Awais Leghari said that the Jamshoro grid also goes into blackout when there is a national blackout, I don’t remember a separate fault in the Jamshoro grid.

Federal Minister of Energy said that there is no connection with K-Electric’s Jamshoro grid, K-Electric’s entire system is completely separate.

K-Electric can take up to 600 megawatts of electricity from the national grid, expensive electricity and more bills are resonating in the National Assembly’s Energy Standing Committee, committee member Rana Sikander Hayat said we can give answers to people when will electricity become cheaper, incomplete settlements and housing societies There is no electricity in Rana Sikander Hayat said that many societies have been established for 50 years but there is no electricity.

There is electricity theft in such places. There are 10 houses with one meter. Minister of Energy said that it is very easy for me to give a connection. More electricity will be used. If more electricity is used, electricity rates will decrease. This is why electricity is more expensive because electricity usage is less.
