ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs across the country, aimed at monthly adjustments for consumers.
According to the issued notification, Karachi will experience a reduction of Rs. 4.03 per unit, while other cities nationwide will see a decrease of 50 paisas per unit.
NEPRA’s notification includes separate adjustments for electricity tariffs starting from April 2025 for K-Electric and from May 2025 for other parts of the country. It promises relief for consumers in July 2025 bills.
In the notification, it was mentioned that the monthly adjustments for electricity tariffs have been reduced, with K-Electric seeking a reduction of Rs. 4.69 per unit in its April adjustment, while CPPA requested an increase of 10 paisas per unit in its May adjustment. However, for government discos, a reduction of 50 paisas per unit has been made.
Earlier, Minister of Energy Awais Leghari said that consumers using up to 200 units are being given an 80% discount. “We will take further steps regarding relief for consumers,” he added.
Mohammad Idris chaired a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Energy where the issue of alternate grid stations for HESCO and K-Electric was discussed.
HESCO authorities said that if there is a fault in Jamshoro grid, the entire HESCO goes into blackout. A fault in the Jamshoro grid means that 13 cities are deprived of electricity.
