ISLAMABAD: Millions of Afghan refugees have sought shelter in Pakistan amid the ongoing conflicts in their homeland, and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) announced on Saturday its commitment to enhancing opportunities for these displaced individuals.
As part of this endeavor, the HEC has unveiled German scholarships specifically designated for female Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
According to an official statement, the HEC is now accepting applications for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarships for the academic year 2024. These two-year Master’s scholarships are designed to enable female Afghan refugees to pursue studies at universities recognized by the HEC in Pakistan.

The initiative, generously funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, encompasses scholarships across various disciplines, with the overarching goal of fostering academic and scientific progress by creating avenues for students to pursue advanced degrees.
Eligibility for the scholarships is extended to female Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan who possess valid proof of registration (POR) cards issued by the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON). Interested candidates can submit their applications online through the HEC’s official website.
Applicants must fulfill certain criteria, including having completed their undergraduate degree, equivalent to 16 years of education, from an HEC-recognized university, with a minimum CGPA of 2.5. Furthermore, eligible candidates must be enrolled in the first semester of a two-year Master’s degree program.
It’s important to note that individuals awaiting their undergraduate results are not eligible to apply for these scholarships.
