RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been ordered to be detained for 15 days.

According to media reports, the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi issued an order to detain Shah Mahmood Qureshi for 15 days.

As per the issued order, Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) as he is a nominated accused in the events of May 9, which require further investigation.

It’s noteworthy that in May of this year, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested by the Islamabad Police on the night of May 10 on charges of “fueling violent protests” following the arrest of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan.

On May 18, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s release after hearing arguments from a petition challenging his detention. The court declared his arrest under Section 3 of the MPO illegal. However, on May 23, Shah Mahmood Qureshi was released but was subsequently arrested again outside Adiala Jail.

On June 6, the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court ordered the immediate release of Shah Mahmood Qureshi, terming his detention illegal. Qureshi was released from Adiala Jail Rawalpindi following the court’s order.

Subsequently, on August 20, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Shah Mahmood Qureshi from Islamabad and nominated him in a case registered under the Official Secrets Act 1923 related to cipher issues.

Then, on December 18, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected a request to reinstate the interim bail of former Foreign Minister and PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in six cases of arson and vandalism on May 9.
