ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has agreed to Sarfraz Bugti’s resignation as the interior minister, as Bugti intends to compete in the upcoming polls.

Bugti formally resigned on December 13, citing personal reasons for stepping down from his role. Interior Ministry spokesperson Qadir Yar Tawana confirmed this report when approached for the ministry’s stance.

Close sources to Bugti disclosed that his decision to resign had been made around two months earlier to actively participate in the upcoming general elections. Consequently, he submitted his resignation prior to the election schedule announcement.

Allegedly, Bugti’s motive for resigning is to contest the election on the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) ticket. Reportedly, he plans to meet with PML-N leadership in the coming days despite currently being affiliated with the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

Sources indicate that the search for a new interior minister has commenced. Given the prevailing wave of terrorism, suggestions include appointing a retired general or a former police inspector general to the position.
