ISLAMABAD: The federal government has abolished 11,877 posts from grade 1 to grade 22 in Pakistan. The Establishment Division has provided details of the abolished posts to the parliament, as per the sources.
According to the Establishment Division, 11,764 posts from grade 1 to 18 and 113 posts from grade 19 to 22 have been removed.
This decision was made by the federal cabinet in August 2024. The cabinet had decided to abolish 60% of vacant regular posts. As a result, posts in various ministries and divisions have been removed.
These include two advisor posts in grade 22, 26 posts in grade 20, and 85 posts in grade 19. Similarly, 135 posts in grade 18, 445 in grade 17, and 552 in grade 16 have been abolished.

Government Ends Job Facility for Families of Deceased Employees
On another note, the government has ended the facility of providing jobs to one family member of government employees who pass away during service.
The Establishment Division has issued formal instructions to all ministries and divisions to implement the Supreme Court’s decision on this matter.
According to the Establishment Division’s announcement, this facility has been withdrawn under the Supreme Court’s decision dated October 18, 2024.
The decision will be effective from the date of the court’s ruling. However, families of deceased employees will continue to receive other benefits under the Prime Minister’s Assistance Package.
