Islamabad bank robbery suspect arrested from Sargodha; stolen money, weapons recovered

ISLAMABAD: The suspect who robbed a bank and a cash van in the federal capital, Islamabad, last week was arrested by the Capital City Police after seven days, and the stolen money and weapons used in the incidents were recovered from his possession.

According to a media report, the police stated that the suspect was arrested by the police investigation team using modern technology.

Islamabad Police said in a statement that the suspect was arrested from the Sargodha district of Punjab.

According to the police, the money stolen during the incidents and the weapons used were also recovered from the possession of the arrested suspect.

Later, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Islamabad confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a press conference along with police officials and said that a cash van was robbed outside the bank and that an incident took place inside the bank. The dacoity was seized, and all the equipment was also recovered from it.

DIG Islamabad stated that they took this matter very seriously. From October 29 until today, the entire team conducted operations day and night; the CIA played a central role, and all records were checked. The data from the last three months was reviewed in three days, and cyber investigation and digital surveillance helped them.

He said that a 24-year-old youth from Sargodha was arrested. The youth had been working as an electrician here for four to five years; the dacoit knew all the streets and routes, and the accused committed crimes inspired by films.

The DIG stated that under the leadership of the IG of Islamabad, crimes are being controlled.

The accused had robbed a bank in Sector G-15 on October 28 and fired at a cash van. In addition, he had robbed banks located in G-9 and G-14 centers on October 29. Two people were killed, and ten were injured in the firing during both robberies.
