ISLAMABAD: Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Pakistan on Thursday for a two-day visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He was given a 21-gun salute upon landing in Islamabad.
PM Shehbaz Sharif welcomed him at Nur Khan Airbase. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar were also present on the occasion. Upon his arrival, two children gave him a flower bouquet.
President Aliyev will hold meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his visit from July 11 to July 12, according to a Foreign Office press release.
Both sides will participate in “comprehensive discussions” on mutual interests to enhance bilateral cooperation. The visit is anticipated to include the signing of several agreements and MoUs.
“The Azeri President’s visit underscores the strong cooperation and dialogue at the leadership level between the two countries.”
He emphasized Pakistan’s strong fraternal ties with the two aforementioned countries, based on “deep-rooted cultural, historical, and religious connections, as well as mutual respect and support on core issues.”
