RIYADH: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened with Bill Gates, the founder and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, on Monday, urging sustained collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve the ultimate objective of a polio-free Pakistan.
During their meeting at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Special Meeting, the Prime Minister underscored Pakistan’s relentless efforts towards polio eradication, as per a statement from the PM Office.
Both leaders had previously participated in a high-level panel discussion at the WEF titled “Redefining the Global Health Agenda.” Expressing gratitude for a congratulatory letter from Bill Gates on his re-election, the Prime Minister recalled the successful immunization and polio vaccine initiatives in Punjab province during his tenure as Chief Minister and emphasized the importance of replicating such practices nationwide.
Reiterating his commitment to strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and the Gates Foundation, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s enduring support for polio eradication efforts in Pakistan. Bill Gates recognized Pakistan’s endeavors, emphasizing the significance of polio eradication in safeguarding future generations.
In addition to discussing progress on polio eradication, Prime Minister Shehbaz and Bill Gates also reviewed ongoing collaborations in immunization, nutrition, and financial inclusion.
The Prime Minister hailed the Gates Foundation as a reliable partner in Pakistan’s socio-economic progress, seeking further collaboration in areas such as IT, STEM education, and disaster management.
Recalling Bill Gates’ previous visit to Pakistan in February 2022, the Prime Minister extended an invitation for a future visit at Bill Gates’ convenience.
