ISLAMABAD: The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather warning, saying many parts of Pakistan will receive moderate to heavy monsoon rainfall until July 10.

The NDMA said the current weather system is being fueled by moisture from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, along with a westerly wave. This is likely to bring significant rainfall in several areas, especially in North-Eastern and Central Punjab, Lower Sindh, parts of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Due to this system, river levels are expected to rise. Low floods have already been recorded in the Indus River at Tarbela, Kalabagh, and Chashma. Rivers Chenab (at Marala and Qadirabad), Swat, Panjkora, and local streams could swell further due to continuous rain.

In AJK, River Jhelum and its tributaries may face flash floods. In Gilgit-Baltistan, River Hunza and nearby nullahs could see a sudden increase in water levels. Southern Balochistan may experience flooding in streams coming from the Kirthar Range and hilly areas in districts like Awaran, Khuzdar, Sibi, Zhob, Musakhel, and others.

The NDMA has advised people living near rivers and flood-prone areas, including along the Indus, Kabul, Chenab, Jhelum, Swat, and Chitral, to stay alert—especially at night or during intense rain.

People are urged to avoid crossing flooded roads, low bridges, or causeways. Residents should prepare emergency kits with enough food, water, and medicines for 3 to 5 days and identify safe places for evacuation. Authorities in cities have also been told to ensure drainage systems and dewatering pumps are ready.

NDMA assured the public that it is working closely with provincial and district disaster authorities to monitor the situation and respond quickly if needed. Citizens are advised to stay informed through official alerts and use the NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time updates.
