RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has allocated Rs150 billion for various development projects in Rawalpindi under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025-26.
According to the details, the Mall Signal-Free Corridor Project will include the construction of underpasses and flyovers at several busy points including Race Course, Chairing Cross, Army Graveyard, Kutchery Chowk, Iftikhar Janjua Road, Jinnah Park, and Ammar Chowk.
Details of some major projects are as follows:

Race Course underpass: Rs2.6 billion (Rs54 million allocated this year)

Chairing Cross underpass: Rs1.5 billion

Army Graveyard Chowk underpass: Rs1.9 billion (Rs68 million allocated)

Kutchery Chowk underpass and widening: Rs4.45 billion (Rs160 million allocated)

Iftikhar Janjua Road underpass: Rs1.93 billion (Rs69 million allocated)

Jinnah Park flyover: Rs4.15 billion (Rs149 million allocated)

Ammar Chowk flyover: Rs3.45 billion (Rs124 million allocated)

COD Chowk Range Road underpass: Rs3.75 billion (Rs135 million allocated)

Tulsa Road Adiala underpass: Rs1.69 billion (Rs61 million allocated)
A major water supply project from Tarbela Lake to Rawalpindi and Islamabad has also been included in the ADP with an allocation of Rs5 billion.

Rawalpindi Development Plan Gets CM’s Approval;
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also approved the Rawalpindi Development Plan, which aims to improve water supply, sewerage systems, and rainwater harvesting.
In a meeting at the RDA office, Secretary Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Noorul Amin Mengal said PC-I documents for the plan must be prepared without delay. He said the government had already launched similar projects in Lahore, and now Rawalpindi would benefit as well.
He stressed that parks under PHA should be used to build rainwater storage tanks, and all resources must be used to conserve water.
Water Projects and Monsoon Preparations;
Mr Mengal directed that the Daducha Dam water supply feasibility be completed quickly. He praised Wasa for recovering Rs2.6 billion in revenue, exceeding its Rs2.3 billion target, and asked for further improvements next year.
Regarding the Leh Nullah project, he said two-lane roads will be built on both sides and a sewage treatment plant will be set up to recycle water for agriculture use.
Strict Monitoring of Housing Schemes;
The secretary also stopped RDA and PHATA from approving new housing schemes until the Rawalpindi Master Plan is completed. He said the provincial government is planning to bring all private housing societies under one civic body for better monitoring.

Wasa’s Monsoon Plan;
Wasa Managing Director Saleem Ashraf briefed the meeting, stating that the agency has a full monsoon plan in place. Drains are being cleaned, staff trained, and machinery upgraded. Five monsoon camps will be set up across Rawalpindi with staff and equipment on standby.
He added that in addition to 20 new tubewells, water supply projects are underway to provide:

5 MGD from Rawal Dam

8 MGD from Khanpur Dam.
A central control room will be set up at Wasa headquarters to manage emergency response during heavy rains.
