KARACHI: The prospect of Ali Zafar lending his voice to the upcoming HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 season has surfaced.
During the initial three seasons of HBL PSL, Ali Zafar was the anthem singer. However, in 2018, he faced harassment allegations from fellow singer Misha Shafi, which had a severe impact on his career.
Despite the inability to substantiate the charges against Ali, a lingering stain persisted, proving difficult to erase despite numerous efforts.
For PSL 9, PCB recorded three anthems featuring Ali Zafar’s voice, ultimately selecting one. However, when the matter reached PSL franchises, a female official raised objections.
It was argued that, given the previous incident, re-associating Ali Zafar with the league could tarnish its reputation.
In response to these concerns, the board reconsidered its decision to involve Ali Zafar in the project, and Zaka Ashraf did not finalize the contract with him.
However, the situation seems to be evolving with the departure of the Chairman of the Management Committee.
Current officials argue that since the charges against Ali Zafar have not been proven, there is no issue in giving him another chance. The situation is expected to become clearer in the next few days.
