TOKYO: The Japan Times reported that Japan was struck by a formidable 7.6 magnitude earthquake on Monday, which registered as the most intense on the Japanese scale.
Following this seismic event, a tsunami warning was issued for a wide expanse of the country’s western coastline.
According to NHK, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued the tsunami warning, advising swift evacuation from coastal areas in Ishikawa, Niigata, Toyama, and Yamagata prefectures. The weather agency indicated the possibility of tsunamis measuring up to five meters in height reaching Noto in Ishikawa Prefecture.
NHK also reported that waves exceeding 1 meter in height made landfall on the coast of Wajima City in Ishikawa Prefecture.
