ISLAMABAD: The Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar strongly criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s validation of the Narendra Modi-led government’s decision to revoke the semi-autonomous status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Addressing the media in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Muzaffarabad district on Friday, the premier emphasized, “Kashmir has never been and will never be a part of India,” asserting that the fate of Kashmiris cannot be determined by any court.

PM Kakar’s remarks followed the recent ruling by the Indian Supreme Court, which deemed Article 370, guaranteeing special status to IIOJK, as a temporary provision, thereby declaring the occupied territory an integral part of India.

The bench, led by the Indian Chief Justice, concluded that the region had become an integral part of India based on Article 1 and 370 of the constitution. Furthermore, it upheld the Indian government’s decision to revoke the region’s semi-autonomous status, stating that IIOJK lacks internal sovereignty.

During his press conference, the premier reiterated Pakistan’s rejection of any unilateral actions concerning IIOJK, highlighting it as an internationally recognized disputed territory.

PM Kakar emphasized that the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute solely rests in a plebiscite in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions, dismissing the authority of any Indian court or assembly to determine the future of the Kashmiri people.

He also mentioned that India’s unilateral actions in IIOJK have only fueled the Kashmiri freedom movement, underscoring that the international community has not accepted India’s stance on Kashmir.
