RAWALPINDI: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Asim Munir, has embarked on his inaugural official visit to the United States (US) since assuming office in November last year, as stated by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday.

This visit by the army chief occurred right after the conclusion of US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West’s two-day stay in Pakistan. During his visit, the American envoy affirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in its counterterrorism efforts and addressing challenges posed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Following the conclusion of his significant visit to Islamabad, West highlighted discussions held on regional security, safeguarding Afghan refugees, and various other crucial matters.

Utilizing his official account on X (previously known as Twitter), the American diplomat shared details regarding his meetings with Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, army chief Gen Munir, Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan Asif Durrani, and Interior Secretary Aftab Akbar Durrani.

Additionally, West reiterated Washington’s determination to stand alongside Islamabad in combatting terrorism within the region, also touching upon ongoing issues regarding the repatriation of undocumented foreigners.

“We also appreciate the close collaboration with Islamabad regarding refugee protection matters, including joint efforts with international organizations and ensuring humane and dignified treatment,” the official further stated.
