ISLAMABAD: On the instructions of the Caretaker Health Minister, Dr. Nadeem Jan, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced its decision to conduct the MDCAT exam in two phases.

Speaking with a private TV channel, Caretaker Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan stated that students in the flood-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have expressed their inability to adequately prepare for the test due to the flooding. Consequently, there is substantial pressure on the Ministry of Health and the Medical and Dental Council to postpone the exam.

Dr. Nadeem Jan further emphasized that the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has been urged to either schedule the MD CAT exam for October or split it into two phases.

The MD CAT exam will be conducted in two phases as per the directive from the Health Minister.

Subsequently, PMDC issued a statement stating that the MD CAT exam will be held separately for students hailing from flood-affected areas. This decision was made in response to the request of students and under the guidance of Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan. The announcement also indicated that the previous syllabus would be maintained for students from flood-affected areas, and the test date for these students would be announced at a later time.

Regarding the directive from the caretaker health minister, PML-N Senator Asif Kirmani has expressed the view that it is not the minister’s role to dictate exam dates, deeming it illegal. He suggested that Dr. Nadeem Jan, as the caretaker health minister, should focus on lowering medication prices and improving hospital facilities instead, as setting examination dates is not within the minister’s purview.
