During the first half of 2023, the wealth of the 500 richest people in the world increased by a total of 852 billion dollars.
According to a Bloomberg report, this period from January to June witnessed an average daily increase of $14 billion in the fortunes of these affluent individuals. This achievement represents the most prosperous half-year for the world’s richest people since July to December 2020.
Notably, Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, experienced the greatest surge in wealth, amassing an impressive $96.6 billion between January 1 and June 30. Following closely behind, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, saw his wealth soar by $58.9 billion during the same time frame.
The primary factors contributing to the wealth surge among the world’s wealthiest individuals were the halting of interest rate hikes in various countries and the significant rise in investments, propelled by advancements in artificial intelligence technology.
In contrast, Gautam Adani from India faced a substantial decline in wealth, losing $60.2 billion over the six-month period. This decline was triggered by a report released on January 25 by Hindenburg, an American short-selling company. The report alleged that the Adani Group had engaged in long-standing stock market manipulation and accounting fraud schemes.
