LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has announced a large-scale cleanliness operation for Eid ul Azha, aiming for a zero-waste city during the holiday.

As part of the plan, LWMC has prepared 1.5 million biodegradable bags for the proper disposal of animal waste. These bags will be distributed at 300 special camps across Lahore.

To handle the waste more effectively, 104 temporary collection points will be set up throughout the city. Over 1,000 LWMC staff members, including senior officers, will be on duty during Eid as all holidays have been cancelled.

According to LWMC CEO Babar Sahib Din, a control room will remain active during the Eid days to supervise the operation. The entire process will be monitored using Safe City cameras and drones to ensure proper implementation of the cleanliness plan.

In a related development, the Punjab Home Department has issued a notification enforcing Section 144 across the province during Eid ul Azha. The restrictions will remain in place from Thursday, June 5 to Wednesday, June 11.

According to the notification, burning animal parts in public places has been banned. It is also prohibited to bathe or boat in rivers, lakes, canals, and dams during this period. People are not allowed to throw animal waste or remains into manholes, drains, or canals.

Additionally, buying or selling sacrificial animals outside officially approved cattle markets is not allowed. The display of weapons and ammunition is also banned.

Importantly, banned organizations are not allowed to collect animal hides. Only institutions registered with the Punjab Charity Commission will be permitted to collect hides during Eid.
