Lahore: Peshawar Zalmi has won the first Eliminator of Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight against Islamabad United by 12 runs at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. United won the toss and elected to field first, and Zalmi was able to post a target of 184 runs, with Babar Azam leading the team to 64 runs in 39 balls. However, United made a strong comeback in the death overs, restricting Zalmi to 35 runs at the loss of four wickets in the last five overs.
Alex Hales and Sohaib Maqsood put Zalmi in a strong position, with a 115-run partnership for the second wicket, before Maqsood was clean-bowled by Aamer Jamal. Zalmi then seized control with clever bowling and regular wickets, restricting United to 171-8 in 20 overs.
The victory means that Peshawar Zalmi has qualified for the second Eliminator, where they will face Lahore Qalandars for a place in the final. The match is set to take place at the same venue on March 17.
