Punjab govt requisitions Army, Rangers for Muharram security

RAWALPINDI: The Government of Punjab has requisitioned the services of the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers to maintain peace during Muharram-ul-Haram.

As per report, Troops will support the Punjab Police in maintaining law and order. In total, the federal interior ministry has sought the services of 150 companies.

A spokesman for the Punjab Home Department stated that 69 companies of the Pakistan Army and 81 companies of the Pakistan Rangers have been requested for security across Punjab.

Troops have been requisitioned in various districts according to the requirements from the 1st to the 12th of Muharram.

The spokesperson informed that the government had empowered deputy commissioners to silence and ban individuals who incite sectarianism and hatred in society.

Similarly, the administration has been asked to provide details of locations where mobile signals need to be jammed around Majalis and processions.

It should be noted that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has declared the 1st of Muharram as an official holiday across the province, and the notification for this has also been issued.
